Oldtime Fiddle Contest 2022

Jeanine Orme Workshop Information

Tuesday June 21: 11am-1pm

Fiddle Tunes for the Intermediate Fiddler
$25 (Receive a $5 discount for pre-registering)

Learn contest style and western swing tunes at an intermediate level by ear. Bowing and technique will be discussed, and sheet music will be available at the end of the workshop.

Wednesday June 22: 9-11am

Twin Fiddling and Harmony
$25 (Receive a $5 discount for pre-registering)

Learn the basics of developing harmony and a twin fiddle part. The class will include functional music theory concepts and learning several tunes and the twin fiddle parts. This class would be most appropriate for players at an intermediate level. Sheet music will be available at the end of the workshop.

Dates and Workshop Focus:

October 16 Old-time and Contest Style Fiddling
November 20 Swing Fiddling
January 22 Irish Fiddling
February 19 Scottish Fiddling
April 9 Bluegrass and Blues Fiddle
May 21 Other Fiddle Styles- May include French Canadian, Cajun, Swedish, etc.

Basic 2 Level (All ages) 1:30--3:00 pm
Students should have a proficient skill level playing in 1st position, note reading ability, and know the names of the notes (equivalent to Suzuki Book 2). Most learning will be done by ear with sheet music provided.

Intermediate/Advanced Level (All ages) 3:30-5 pm
Students should be comfortable playing in 1st position in many keys (equivalent to Suzuki Book 3 and above). Third position experience is helpful. Most learning will be done by ear with sheet music provided.

Summer 2022
4 Day Fiddle Camps for Violin Students
Taught by Jeanine Orme in Beaverton, OR

Includes 8 hours of instruction, jamming and workshop materials!
Viola and Cello players are also welcome to attend.

Fiddle camp may be held outdoors or indoors with a small group. Attending by Zoom will also be available. Bring a snack if desired and a water bottle.


Basic Level 2 (All Ages 2-4 years experience)
$85 Mon. 8/1 - Thurs. 8/4 9 - 11 a.m.
Camp Focus: Oldtime Fiddle, Various Styles and Jamming


Students should be proficient playing in 1st position. Tunes will be taught by ear at a moderate pace. We will also work on basic music theory, harmony, and rhythmic chords. Each session will end with a jam session. Materials and listening files will be provided ahead of time with registration. A selected list of fiddle tunes for jamming should be memorized if possible. (Students should bring or purchase “Fiddle & Bow Book 2 ” and “The Fiddlin’ Workshop”, which will be available at the camp.)

Intermediate/Advanced Level (All Ages 4+ years experience)
$85 Mon. 8/1 - Thurs. 8/4 12 - 2 p.m.
Camp Focus: Oldtime Fiddle, Various Styles and Jamming

We will also work on basic music theory, harmony, rhythmic chords, and improvisation. Each session will end with a jam session. Materials and listening files will be provided ahead of time with registration. A selected list of fiddle tunes for jamming should be memorized if possible. (Students should bring or purchase “Texas Style Fiddlin’ Workshop”, “The Fiddlin’ Workshop” which will be available at the camp.)

Basic Level 1 (All Ages 1-2 years experience)
$85 Mon. 8/8 - Thurs. 8/11 9 - 11 a.m.
Camp Focus: Oldtime Fiddle and Jamming
